Grease Masters - Grease Traps

You do the cooking...

Let Us do the Cleaning!

Grease trap cleaning is Grease Masters' core service. No job is too large or too small for us to service, with single-visit pumping capabilities up to 4,000 gallons.

We at Grease Masters are specialists in maintaining commercial grease traps throughout the area. We can service all makes and sizes of grease traps, both externally and internally, on a prescheduled routine basis. We drain the tank of grease wastes, remove and clean all baffles, make sure the water is running thru the system correctly. This waste is handled in an environmentally safe and sound method through the waste recycling center at the St. Louis Metropolitan Sewer District.

Most municipalities require monthly grease trap maintenance or cleaning. Depending on the trap size and your business volume, more frequent service may be necessary. MSD, Local Municipal Sewer Districts, Local Health Boards, and Environmental Regulations have specific requirements for compliance.

Just remember, your sewers never back up at a convenient time!

Typical Outside Grease Trap

How does a grease trap work?
A grease trap works with hydraulic pressure and gravity. When you empty your three compartment sink, the water flows into the grease trap.

It then hits a baffle which slows down the water. This allows the solids to sink to the bottom of the trap and the fats and oils to float to the top.

The water pressure from the incoming side then pushes the water that has had time to settle out of the trap and into the sanitary sewer line or the septic system.

How do you know if your grease trap is having problems?
  1. It smells to high heaven.
  2. Your sinks don’t drain as fast as they should.
  3. It’s leaking on the floor.
  4. The lid is rusty or has holes in it.
  5. There are no bolts holding the lid down.

Should I use biological agents, enzymes, or bugs to help maintain my grease trap?

Don't be fooled by companies that want to dispense a biological agent into your grease trap! It is not necessary and is costly.
  • Using biological agents, enzymes, or bugs emulsifies the grease, allowing it to pass through the grease trap and into your sewer line. This grease then solidifies and adheres to that very line, past your grease trap. This will clog your outgoing sewer line, causing costly backups and major repairs.
  • Companies treating with enzymes inject chemicals into the grease trap, then scoop off the top layer of grease. They leave solids at the bottom of the trap, then these solids rot, giving off an awful odor. Leaving these solids in the bottom of the trap will deteriorate the grease trap, leaving you with costly repairs and replacements.
  • The ordinances in the Metro St. Louis Area state that if you use enzymes or bugs you still need your grease trap pumped on a regular schedule.

Let us save you money by having quarterly maintenance instead of a monthly bill!

Your costs can be estimated. By reviewing this simple formula you can see how effective it is to use a pumping service versus those of an enzyme company.

Enzyme treatment
12 months X $125 per month = $1500 per year
Inside Grease Trap service
4x per year X $135 per service =$540 per year
Outside Grease Trap service
4x per year X $200 per service=$800 per year

You can see a cost savings of 30% to 60% to your bottom line each year.

What should I do to help keep my grease trap running at top performance?

The Do's:
  • Schedule regular grease cleanings.
  • Make sure that food prep and wash sinks are tied into a trap.
  • Ensure that your trap is properly sized.
  • Train your staff to remove as much waste and food solids as possible from plates and pots before washing.
  • Maintain a cleaning log for code compliance.

The Don't's:
  • Don't pour boiling water into a trap connected sink as it forces FOG's down the sewer pipe.
  • Don't connect garbage disposals to a trap.
  • Don't connect high temperature dishwashers to a trap.
  • Don't put chemicals, bleach, additives, or drain cleaners into a trap - they destroy naturally beneficial bateria and risk harm to the environment.
